  • Poggio Landi, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is an exquisite dry red wine made from Sangiovese grapes, also known as Brunello in Montalcino. The grapes are grown in the vineyards of the Poggio Landi estate at an altitude of 300-500 meters above sea level. The vines are cultivated on the southern and southwestern slopes with clay and marl soils. The harvest is collected when the berries reach optimal maturity. At the winery, the grapes undergo traditional vinification. Spontaneous fermentation lasts about 2 weeks. Then the wine is poured into French oak barrels with a capacity of 30 and 54 hl, where it is aged for 38 months. After bottling, the wine “rests” in the cellars of the winery for at least 6 months.

The 2016 vintage was ranked 12th in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 in 2021. At the peak of maturity, the wine will be between 2025 and 2048.

Winter in 2016 in Brunello di Montalcino was mild, with heavy rains in February. Budding took place in the first week of April. Flowering occurred in the last week of May in sunny weather ideal for good fruit set. The summer was generally mild, without heat waves and with little rain. Ripening proceeded slowly and evenly, also due to significant fluctuations in daily temperatures in the days preceding the harvest. During the harvest, which began at the end of September, the weather conditions were mild, with significant diurnal temperature fluctuations, which ensured optimal ripeness of the grapes.

Poggio Landi is an estate located in the hills of Montalcino, which is part of a promising chain of wineries owned by the Italian group Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards (ABFV). Argentine billionaire Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni owns several wineries in Argentina, Uruguay and California, and his group Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards, also known as Societa Agricola Dievole Spa, brings together the most promising wineries from the best wine regions of Tuscany. These wineries are united not only by a common production philosophy focused on the highest quality, sustainability and minimal environmental impact, which results in very elegant wines, but also the most refined hospitality, celebrating the authentic and discreet taste of the famous Tuscan lifestyle.

Dievole Estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, about 12 km northeast of Siena, 56 km southeast of Florence and 1 km from the small village of Vagliagli. On an area of more than 400 hectares, there are forests, hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, as well as typical Chianti farms. Villa Dievole (the name supposedly comes from “Dio vuole”, meaning God), which is now in the center of the estate, has an ancient history. It was built as a residence for a noble Tuscan family back in the distant eleventh century, when the Dieulele vineyard was planted in this area under divine protection. Since that time, 15 generations of owners have been making wine.
In 1986, at the age of only 21, Mario di Dievole became director of the family company. He concentrated his main efforts on the production of wine of the highest quality. Already in 1989, the first wine Dievole Chianti Classico was released on the market. In addition to excellent Chianti wine, Dievole now also produces young white, ros and red wines, as well as some “Super-Tuscan”. The estate plantations cover 150 hectares and consist of 16 separate vineyards, each of which has its own unique microclimate, and the wines born from them are expressions of different tastes and styles.
